Offshore Bank Accounts for Chinese Companies: Which Jurisdiction Opens Easiest?

Reviewed by Dilys Deng · ICPA Chartered AccountantLast reviewed: 2026-10-18
SHORT ANSWER

For mainland-owned companies in 2026: Hong Kong remains the most practical (substance + mainland connection), Singapore for higher-tier treasury, UAE for Middle East operations. All require documented business substance and source of funds.

Practical ranking: (1) Hong Kong — best cost/effort ratio; digital banks (ZA, Mox, WeLab) approve faster than incumbents; mainland connection is a plus not a minus. (2) Singapore — DBS/UOB/OCBC want meaningful substance or a Singapore EP director; expect 4-8 weeks; best for USD treasury. (3) UAE — required for Gulf operations; ENBD, Mashreq, ADCB work with Chinese traders; minimum balances apply. (4) Offshore centers (BVI/Cayman) — banks increasingly refuse or refer to HK/SG subsidiaries; maintain via those instead. Universal requirements: business evidence (contracts, invoices), source-of-funds documentation, personal KYC, and realistic projected flows. Applications with contradictions (claimed turnover vs projected volume) are the top rejection cause.
